A manufacturing defect in some high-voltage battery cells can cause an internal short circuit, and Ford's own recall notice says this raises fire risk -- the recall covers this exact model year. Until the remedy is installed, Ford has told owners to avoid charging past a lower limit and use Auto EV mode to keep the battery's charge level down.
