The pump that boosts brake assist is lubricated by engine oil, and sludge can clog its filter screen as the truck ages, so the pump delivers less vacuum than the brakes need — the pedal gets noticeably harder to push and stopping distances grow, worst in stop-and-go driving. GM recalled 2015–2018 Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade for exactly this (113 crashes and 13 injuries cited); the fix is a free brake-control-module recalibration. Confirm this VIN's recall was completed.
