Owners report the forward-collision system slamming on the brakes with no vehicle or obstacle actually there — often on curves, in traffic, or reacting to overhead signs — hard enough to startle the driver or the car behind. Mazda addressed the same root cause, incorrect Smart Brake Support programming, with a software fix on earlier Mazda3s; ask if this car has had the SBS software update.
