Kestrel Take

Still an excellent small rear-drive saloon, and at three years old it is the version of this car most likely to still be inside some of its factory coverage. The record is small — 22 complaints — but it is not scattered: three clusters of six each, and the headlights and the fuel system account for two of them. This year carries only one recall campaign, for the high-pressure fuel pump; the turbocharger oil pipe campaign was written for 2019 to 2022 cars and the earlier ABS module fire campaign for 2019 to 2021, so neither reaches this one. Two-thirds of these filings arrived in 2025 and 2026, and a striking number are owners describing a car that drops to 50 mph on the highway and a dealer who cannot get the recall part. Check the headlights for moisture, confirm what the fuel pump recall actually replaced, and take a long test drive that includes a highway on-ramp.

What we checked

Reconciled against public records, 2026-09-25

NHTSA holds 22 owner complaints for the 2023 Genesis G70, and 1 recall campaign.

A big number here usually means a lot of these were sold, not that it is a bad vehicle — popular models collect more complaints for the same rate of trouble. So the total on its own says little. What is worth reading is the shape of it. The largest single group is the lights at 27%. That is notable without being overwhelming — worth checking, not worth panicking about.

One recall campaign covers this model year. Recalls are repaired free, for any owner, with no time limit on most safety campaigns — but only if someone books it in. Ask the seller to show it was done, or have any dealer check the VIN; it takes them a couple of minutes and costs nothing.

Counts come from the NHTSA complaint and recall database — free, public, and worth checking yourself.

Known Issues for the 2023 Genesis G70

Ranked by wallet impact. These are documented, recurring problems — not freak accidents. How we decide that.

Moisture inside the headlights, cracks around the mounting points, and a turn signal errorHigh — wallet impact

Six complaints, and between them they explain the whole chain. One owner pulled the front bumper off and found cracks radiating from each of the mounting screws on the front of the headlight housing — which is how the water gets in. Once it is in, the car starts showing a Turn Signal Error message with an amber master warning, the indicator stops flashing properly, and in some cases the low beam goes out at night. The assemblies are sealed units, so the fix is replacement rather than repair, and owners report being told their extended coverage does not include them. Look through both lenses on a damp morning for droplets or a fog line, and have someone work both indicators while you watch from in front.

Repair cost (estimate): $900–$2,200 per headlight assembly fitted

High-pressure fuel pump fails and the car cannot hold highway speed (recall)High — wallet impact

Recall 24V528 covers 2019–2023 G70s: the fuel pump can fail and take the car's drive power with it. What that looks like from the driver's seat, in this year's own filings, is a car that suddenly will not exceed 50 or 62 mph with the pedal flat, or one that drops from 66 to 45 mph on a major highway and nearly gets rear-ended. The remedy is an engine control software update plus inspection and replacement of the pump where the criteria are met — and this record is full of owners whose dealer could not get the pump. One was told in November 2024 that parts were on back order and was still waiting two months later after escalating to corporate. A recall marked complete on a software update alone is not the same as a new pump.

Repair cost: $0 with the recall — verify it was performed; $900–$2,000 for the pump outside the campaign

Source: NHTSA complaints filed under the fuel system (6); 1 NHTSA recall campaign on this model year.

Limp mode and stalling that survive the recall software updateHigh — wallet impact

The engine cluster is the same six cars from a different angle, and the important detail is that several of them had the recall reflash already. One still throws P0191, the fuel rail pressure sensor code, every time. Another went into limp mode twice on the highway inside six months with the whole dash lighting up and code P061B stored. A third had the engine shut off entirely in a parking lot and sit dead for two and a half hours, blocking a lane. So treat a completed recall as the start of the question, not the end of it: ask whether the symptoms ever came back afterwards, and have the car scanned for stored and pending codes before you buy rather than trusting a dashboard with no light on.

Repair cost (estimate): $250–$2,000 depending on whether it is the rail pressure sensor or the pump itself

Forward collision system complaints, two of them filed after a crashHigh — wallet impact

Three owners filed against the forward collision avoidance system on this year and two of those filings report a crash. The public record does not tell us which way it failed — whether the car braked hard for something that was not there, or did not brake for something that was — and we are not going to guess, because the two have opposite consequences. What you can do is establish the system's behaviour yourself. On the test drive, note whether any collision or emergency braking warning appears with nothing ahead, and check the dash for a permanently disabled driver-assistance message, which often means a radar or camera fault nobody has paid to fix.

Repair cost: Not yet priced — a safety matter first, a repair bill second

Walk-Away Red Flags

  • ✗Droplets, fogging or a tide line inside either headlight
  • ✗A Turn Signal Error or amber master warning on the dash
  • ✗The car refusing to accelerate past roughly 50 to 60 mph
  • ✗A collision warning or a hard brake application with nothing ahead
  • ✗A recall record that shows a software update but no pump replaced

Good Signs

  • ✓Both headlight lenses clear and dry after an overnight rain
  • ✓A dealer invoice naming a high-pressure fuel pump assembly
  • ✓The fuel pump campaign showing closed on the NHTSA VIN lookup
  • ✓A clean scan for stored and pending codes at an independent shop
  • ✓Remaining factory powertrain coverage transferable to you, confirmed by a Genesis dealer
