The facelifted G70 — new face, new tail lights, the 2.0-litre four replaced by a 2.5-litre turbo — and the year where one fault dominates the record in a way the earlier cars do not. Just under a third of all 31 complaints are the headlights, and they are all the same story: water inside the assembly, then the turn signal or the daytime running light giving up, then a bill because the sealed assembly is not a serviceable part. The other two clusters are the pair of 2024 recall campaigns, one for the high-pressure fuel pump and one for the left turbocharger oil pipe on the V6. It carries two campaigns rather than the 2020 car's three because the ABS module fire recall was written for 2019 to 2021 build years and stops short of this one. Look into the headlights on a damp morning before you do anything else, then check both campaigns on the VIN.

Known Issues for the 2022 Genesis G70

Ten of this year's 31 complaints are headlights, and they read like one letter written ten times: condensation appears inside the lamp, it does not clear after half an hour of driving with the lights on, and eventually the indicator, daytime running light or low beam shorts out or simply stops. One dealer's remedy was to put silica bags inside the lamp. Owners who had one side replaced under warranty report the replacement doing the same thing, and several say the extended coverage they bought specifically excludes sealed headlight components — so this can land wholly on you. Check it in the morning or after rain: look through the lens for droplets, fogging or a tide mark low in the housing, and have someone work both indicators and the running lights while you stand in front of the car.

Recall 24V528 covers 2019–2023 G70s: the fuel pump can fail and the car loses the power to move properly. On this year the accounts are frightening in a specific way — cars that will not go beyond 45 or 60 mph while the accelerator is on the floor, one owner nearly struck by a truck after losing power in traffic at 46,000 miles, another dropping into limp mode with no warning light at all. The remedy is an engine control software update plus inspection and replacement of the pump where the criteria are met, and the trap is right there: one owner's recall shows completed while the dealer declined to replace the pump, and others waited months for parts that did not exist. Ask to see a line item for a pump assembly, not just a reflash.

Recall 24V191 covers 2019–2022 G70s with the 3.3-litre turbo V6: the left turbocharger's oil feed pipe deteriorates and leaks onto engine parts hot enough to ignite the oil. An owner on this year found exactly that — the left turbo pipe cracked, two to three quarts of oil disappearing in a matter of days, and smoke out of the exhaust. Another car in this record caught fire after losing power on the road. Dealers replace the pipe at no cost, with letters mailed in May 2024. Pull the dipstick and look for a level well below full on a car the seller says is not due an oil change, and check the driveway or garage floor under where it has been parked.

One owner reports the transmission simply giving out on the freeway on a car barely out of its first years, with no warning light beforehand and the manufacturer declining to help. That is a single report, not a pattern, and we are not going to inflate it into one — but it is an expensive enough failure to be worth ten minutes of your test drive. Drive the car from cold through the full range of gears, then find a hill and make it downshift under load. What you are listening for is a clunk between gears, a flare where the engine revs without the car gathering speed, or a shift that arrives a beat late.
