An incorrect or improperly secured floor mat can trap the accelerator pedal in the fully depressed position, causing sustained unintended acceleration. Toyota recalled the 2005-2010 Tacoma for exactly this and later added a brake-override software update as a backup safeguard. Confirm with the VIN on NHTSA.gov that both the floor mat and brake-override fixes were completed, and never stack a second mat over the factory one.
