Kestrel Take
Two complaints and zero recalls is not a verdict on the car; it is a car that is one or two years old, still under Audi's four-year warranty, and has not been on the road long enough for anyone to have much to say. We have not written up a signature fault for this year because the record does not contain one — not because we checked and found the car clean. The mechanical package is the last of the B9 A4 (2.0T mild-hybrid, seven-speed dual-clutch), unchanged from 2020–2023, so the older pages tell you what to look at: the 2020's MMI reboot wave in 2025 is the one to test for, and the plastic coolant housings are the one to look at under the hood. Buy this year for the warranty that is left on it — confirm the in-service date by VIN at a dealer — and pay a price that reflects a used car, not a nearly new one.
What we checked
Checked against public records, 2026-09-25
NHTSA holds 2 owner complaints for the 2024 Audi A4, and no recall campaigns.
That is too small a record to read a pattern from, so we are not going to pretend otherwise — with numbers this low one owner moves the percentage by a lot. What has been filed is grouped under tyres (1), electrics and electronics (1), airbags (1). Treat those as things to look at, not as the vehicle's known weaknesses. A thin file usually means few of these were sold or few owners filed. It is not evidence the vehicle is trouble-free, and the issues below are our own research rather than a reading of this record.
Counts come from the NHTSA complaint and recall database — free, public, and worth checking yourself.
Known Issues for the 2024 Audi A4
Ranked by wallet impact. These are documented, recurring problems — not freak accidents. How we decide that.
One of the two complaints is a long account of a brand-new A4 going back to the dealer repeatedly in its first weeks for warning lights that the dealer kept treating with software updates; NHTSA logged it under both electrical and airbags. One story is one story, but it is the kind of early-electronics fault that leaves a trace: pull the service history by VIN at any Audi dealer and look for repeat visits for the same lights. On the test drive, watch the cluster at start-up for any airbag or system warning that lingers past the self-check.
Repair cost (estimate): $0–$300 under warranty or for a software update

Not in this year's record, but the 2020 A4 collected over a hundred complaints in 2025 of the centre screen restarting itself every few minutes and taking the backup camera, parking sensors and navigation down with it, and the 2024 uses the same MMI generation. We do not know whether 2024s are affected; we do know it is free to check. Keep the screen on for the entire test drive, reverse at least twice with the camera up, and ask the seller for the date of the last MMI software update. Under warranty the fix is Audi's; the point is to know before you sign.
Repair cost (estimate): $0–$300 for a software update; $1,500–$3,500 for a main unit out of warranty

Not in this year's record and unlikely to have started yet, but the EA888 2.0T's thermostat housing and water pump are plastic, and they are the first coolant leak most of these engines develop as they age. The early signs are a sweet smell after a drive, pink crust on the housing at the front of the engine, and a coolant level that keeps dropping. Under the factory warranty it costs you nothing; the reason to look now is that a car already needing top-ups tells you how it was treated. Lift the engine cover and look.
Repair cost (estimate): $700–$1,500
