The enthusiast's pick in the economy class — the Mazda3 steers and rides better than anything else at the price, and the SkyActiv engines are efficient and durable with no turbo or CVT to worry about. Firmer ride and more road noise than a Corolla, and the infotainment is dated, but mechanically it's a gem. Buy the maintained one.
