Fourteen complaints across ten years is a small file, and small files tell you how few people wrote in rather than how well the car was made — the Cadenza never sold in volume, and this is the last year of the first generation. Read what is there rather than the size of it. Nearly half is the windshield, which Kia recalled on every 2014 to 2016 Cadenza for not being bonded properly, and owners here describe being turned away by dealers who said there was no recall or no part. The engine entries are fewer but heavier: repeated overheating with coolant loss and white smoke, and one dealer diagnosis of head bolts working loose. Both recalls are free. Check the coolant, check the glass, and buy on the strength of the service folder.

Windshield not bonded properly — it leaks, lifts and can crack (recall 22V158)High — wallet impact

Recall 22V158 covers every 2014 to 2016 Cadenza: the front windshield may never have been bonded to the body correctly, and it can detach. On this year owners describe water and air coming in around the screen, a windshield that visibly lifts while driving and even when a door is shut, and one that made an abnormal noise at speed and then began to crack and leak. Just as telling, several were sent away — one dealer said there was no recall at all, another said the part was not available, a third inspected the car and declined to do it. The repair is free when a dealer agrees to do it. Look for damp carpet in the front footwells and a dirt line along the top edge of the glass.

Overheating with coolant loss and white exhaust smoke, and head bolts working looseHigh — wallet impact

Two detailed 2025 filings describe the same progression on this car: repeated overheating, coolant disappearing with no puddle on the drive, then white smoke from the exhaust — the signature of coolant getting into the cylinders. A separate 2022 filing says a Kia dealer found the cylinder head bolts had loosened and the engine had failed. A fourth owner reports a loud rattle from the engine bay on start-up that a dealer could not account for. Four complaints is not a big sample and we are not going to dress it up as one, but the failure described is expensive and it is checkable. Pull the coolant cap when the engine is cold and look for oil or a mayonnaise-coloured film, and watch the exhaust at start-up for sweet-smelling white vapour that does not clear.

ABS control unit fire recall 23V652, with a long wait for partsHigh — wallet impact

The hydraulic electronic control unit can short in the engine bay and start a fire whether the car is running or parked, and Kia's remedy is a free fuse replacement. Both of this year's brake complaints are the same thing: owners notified of the campaign in 2023 and 2024 and told by their dealer that the parts were still not available. Kia's interim advice to owners was to park away from buildings, which is a fair description of how seriously to take an open campaign here. Panoramic sunroof glass can shatter on the moveMedium

An owner here describes the sunroof exploding at freeway speed in December 2016 — a bang loud enough that they thought they had been shot, glass falling into the car, and lasting hearing trouble afterwards. Large panoramic roofs that break apart without an impact are a documented pattern across several Kia and Hyundai models of this period, though there is no recall on this car's record covering it. One report is one report, so treat this as a thing to inspect rather than a thing to expect: look at the glass in bright light for chips and spidering at the edges, check the drain channels are clear, and ask whether the roof has ever been replaced.
